In a recent survey asking respondents what they
felt were Egypt's most severe economic problems, 48%
of those polled rated unemployment as their number
one concern.
Every year, 600,000 new job seekers enter a labor
market stalled by a global and local economic
slowdown end a high population growth.
According to the Center for Population Mobilization
and Statistics the official estimate for
unemployment is about 10% this year.
Affected by the present economic situation, the
majority of the population suffers from poverty in
addition to specific problems related to the
characteristics of the areas: lack of heath and
education services, high unemployment rate and
inexistence of infrastructures.
EACD considers economic development as a main pillar
for comprehensive development process. The
association initiates a multitude of activities in
El Marg area and Sahel Seleem - Assiut governorate
in assistance boosting small business and individual
financial status within areas which suffer from very
poor economic and social conditions. The Association
works with 10 local CDAs.
This program includes individual micro-credits,
vocational training in factories and workshops in
compliance with job market demand and small business
administrative training featuring skills for
management, sales, marketing, book keeping and
saving plans.
